The Workers' Art Club was formed first in Melbourne in 1931, by Noel Counihan, Jack Maughan and Nutter Buzacott. Braches also formed in Sydney.Townsville and, by 1935, in Perth. The Melbourne group produced a magazine Masses from 1931.The club organised 'worker-art' exhibitions' and staged plays. It later evolved into the New Theatre
