Details

Cumeragunja exiles in Melbourne led by William Cooper establish the Australian Aborigines League. Other people of eminence in the early AAL included Doug Nicholls, Shadrack James and Marge Tucker. White supporters in the AAL included trade unionist A.P. Bordeu, assorted Christians and various individual members of the Communist Party of Australia (CPA). Later, in the 1960s the organization would evolve into the modern day Aborigines Advancement League run by Pastor Doug Nichols and Bruce McGuinness.
