Details
The Social Democratic Federation of Australasia was formed in November 1892 by two disaffected members of the Australian Socialist League:the married couple William H. McNamara (a key figure in the foundation of the ASL) and Bertha McNamara.The two established the Progressive Book Depot, Cosmopolitan Lending Library and International Reading Room. While its formal position differed little from the ASL, it was far more sceptical of Parliamentary process, believing that socialism should be built from below.
